Abstract
This is a picture of an old woman smiling at her picture being taken by a male figure. The background is blue with two horizontal brown lines near the top of the composition. There is a marking at the bottom in black reading something that looks like "7 Betts." Oil on canvas with a brown wooden frame and no glass. To the upper left corner on the back reads "267-01" and to the bottom left on wood support in red marker reads "89.26." Artist biography: Biff Elrod was a part-time Instructor of Art and Artist in Residence for the 1970-71 academic year at Rhodes College (then Southwestern at Memphis), preceding Peter Bowman. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Memphis Academy of Arts and his Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Hawaii. His teaching requirements consisted of two classes for Terms I and II, and one class in Term III. Elrod signed a contract on March 3, 1971 for Tenured Instructor in Art (part-time). Elrod was on teaching staff at the University of Hawaii before coming to Rhodes to work part-time. In Honolulu he held one-man exhibitions at "The Foundry" and at The Pali Unitarian Gallery. His specialty is in figurative painting in oils. While he was teaching at Rhodes he was also teaching at the Memphis Academy of Arts. Elrod's Clough-Hanson Gallery exhibit "Paintings and Drawings" was held February 7-28, 1971.
