Abstract
This is a digital photograph of Hope Hudson's painting. It was submitted as the first critiqued assignment, "Photo-volution," on February 8, 2017 in Erin Harmon's Intermediate/Advanced Painting class. The artist statement reads: "This painting presents a central, shallow composition of dead mice arranged on a paper towel. The bright pinks, reds, and blues and textured patterning make the painting feel decorative, juxtaposing the morbid content and creating irony. Color scheme and echoed mark-making unify the different surfaces described. This painting challenges me to consider deeper meaning in my color relationships, as well as to question the purpose of a central composition. Its successes inspire me to continue to develop a specificity to my figures, instilling individual characters in them with realized expressions and peculiarities."
