Abstract
This is a digital photograph of Irene Shepley's mixed media artwork. It was submitted as the third critiqued assignment, "Not Flat," on April 4, 2017, in Erin Harmon's Intermediate/Advanced Painting class. The student's artist statement for this work reads: "Consuming most of the canvas is an amalgam of faces exaggerated on a single head. The faces are situated on a canary-yellow background overlaid a woven pattern. Each rendition of the facial features is composed similarly, except for shifts in scale, direction, and expression. There is not a specific light source. This alludes to the fact that there is a single person being distorted and connotes a jumbled mind inside of the jumbled head. The top right face is the most successful because it creates a complete form and expression while being skewed in an unusual way."
