Abstract
This course is designed to enable students to become proficient in all four language skills:
listening, reading, speaking and writing.
By reviewing and expanding on all important grammatical structures, the course will focus on using the language actively and creatively in meaningful context. To achieve
these goals, grammar and vocabulary will be taught for their communicative value and not as ends in themselves.
This course is also designed to enable students to become more familiar with, understand,
and appreciate the history, culture, and life-style of contemporary Italy and the Italian speaking world today.
In addition, students will have the opportunity to get acquainted with the works of some of the most outstanding Italian authors and read life account and anecdotes about famous Italians such as: Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Marco Polo, Dante Alighieri, Guglielmo Marconi, Giuseppe Verdi, Cristoforo Colombo, Giovanni Boccaccio, etc.
