Abstract
The Rev. George Summey was born June 3, 1853 in Asheville, NC. He attended the University of Georgia for one year, transfered to Davidson College and graduate in 1870 with an A.B. and in 1872 with an M. A. He married Elizabeth R. Worth of NC in 1875. He pursued his theological studies at Union Seminary, Virginia while he had pastorates in Bolivar, TN; Madison Avenue Church, Covington KY; Graham, NC; Chester SC. He received his DD from Southwestern Presbyterian University 1890 while serving in Chester. He was called to the
Chancellorship of Southwestern Presbyterian University in 1892 and served until 1902. He was also Professor of the English Bible. He founded Presbyterian Quarterly in 1887 and was a Commissioner to the Presbyterian General Assmbly.
During his term as Chancellor, Waddel Building and Calvin Hall were added to SPU
