Abstract
Microorganisms are of monumental importance to humans, plants, and to all life
forms on Earth. Collectively they constitute the largest mass of living material on
Earth. In this course we will study microorganisms from all major organizational
perspectives (molecular, physiology, phylogeny, disease) Principal emphasis will
be placed on prokaryotic microorganisms and the importance of their basic
metabolic patterns in defining the roles that they play in nature.
