Abstract
This is a digital photograph of Eddie Lewis's painting. It was submitted as the first critiqued assignment, "Photo-volution," on February 8, 2017 in Erin Harmon's Intermediate/Advanced Painting class. The artist's statement reads: "This presents a physically realistic setting painted with unrealistic lights and colors. The dark background brings out the brightness of the colors, making them louder and more intense. These bright lines that form the edges of the bar, walls, and top light, lead the eye around the entire painting and to the figures, which are made strange because of their unrealistic coloring and slightly exaggerated facial expressions. The complementary, bright colors which form the bottles surrounding the bar and the figures along with the strange facial expressions and movement of the figures both attracts the eye and creates a strange narrative."
