Abstract
The first Peabody Hotel was built in 1869. After it closed in 1923 and was then demolished, the large new hotel was erected. Chicago architect Walter W. Ahschlager designed the Peabody Hotel in 1925. The hotel is located at 149 Union Avenue in Downtown Memphis. The Romanesque hotel is best known for its lobby and mezzanine. The lobby features a Bernini-esque fountain for the famous Peabody Ducks to swim in each day. Another noteworthy feature is the skyway. It is in Art Deco style and features a circular dancefloor.
