Abstract
This is a portrait of Spence L. Wilson, Rhode’s College’s former Chair of the Board of Trustees. In this picture he is smiling with his eyes towards the audience with hands clasped over his left knee while sitting. He is wearing a suit with a decorative red tie. The background is a gray and red mix. The artist’s signature “TOM DONAHUE ’08” is painted in the lower left side. The painting is surrounded by a decorative gold frame and no glass. In the bottom center there is a plaque that reads “SPENCE L. WILSON / Chair, Rhodes College Board of Trustees / 2000- [2009 has not been added yet]/ Having earned the B.s. degree from Vanderbilt University and the M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School, he went on to earn the lasting gratitude of Rhodes as its benefactor, visionary and friend. President of Kemmons Wilson, Inc., he is widely recognized as one of Memphis’ leading business and civic leaders. In 2002 he received the Rhodes Distinguished Service Medal in recognition of his many contributions to the college over more than twenty years. / Dedicated January 16, 2014” .
