Abstract
This is a portrait of Thomas Henry Tutwiler seated and dressed in a blue suit with a red tie. His right arm is in his lap while his left arm leans over the arm of the chair. The portrait is framed with a decorative gold frame and has a plaque in the bottom’s center that reads “THOMAS HENRY TUTWILER / 1866-1938 / DIRECTOR AND TREASURER, SOUTHWESTERN AT MEMPHIS 1928-1938 / PAINTED IN 1938 BY / GEORGE OBERTEUFFER, N.A. / PRESENTED BY MEMPHIS ACADEMY OF ARTS”. There is an artist’s signature “.Oberteuffer” in the bottom right corner of the portrait in black paint.
