Abstract
The Stewart Literary Society was organized by students at Stewart College in 1853 with B. A. Rogers as the first president of the group. In the early years of the college, Stewart Literary Society and the Washington Irving Literary Society issued the invitations to Commencements and each had a speaker at the ceremony.
