Abstract
This is a large outdoor sculpture of Charles Edward Diehl wearing regalia and holding something in his right hand. The platforms around him have engraved “CHARLES EDWARD DIEHL” , “IT WAS OUT PURPOSE TO LAUNCH HERE AN INSTITUTION WHICH WOULD ENURE FOR CENTURIES, AND WHICH WOULD COMMAND THE RESPECT AND QUICKEN THE PRIDE OF SUCCEEDING GENERATIONS” , “THE SCULPTURE IS PROVIDED / THROUGH THE GENEROSITY OF / FRIENDS AND ALUMNI OF THE COLLEGE”. Behind the statue has written, “ THE IDEAL OF THIS COLLEGE HAS BEEN / SUMMARIZED IN TWO WORDS: / GENUINENESS AND EXCELLENCE.”
