Abstract
This painting depicts a Native American man riding a horse. The man is leaning back and facing the sky. He holds a drum in his left hand and a drumstick in his right hand. He is closing his eyes and opening his mouth.The man is wearing pants with white strings and long red flaps with black and white feathers. The horse is brown and has a white nose and white feet. He is wearing a blue saddle with red adornments. The painting conveys a sense of motion. It is very geometric and resembles the patterns of constellations. The background of the painting is a deep navy blue, and the figures of the man and the horse contain several shades of red, brown, and purple that are in a similar palette. The painting has a signature in the bottom right corner "Oscar House". It is framed by an off white window mat, and it is held by a light wooden frame.Removed from frame on 7-11-2017. Blue ballpoint pen on the back of the Paintings that reads, "#210 "Horse Dancer" by Oscar Howe price $200. Back of original mat board - has writing that says, ""Horse Dancer Cassaim-Damar $200.00".
