Abstract
This image is from a collection created by Etta Hanson and given to the College in 1954. All items are from Otto Ege's estate. The leaf was contained and mounted in a mat created by Otto Ege, as were all other leaves in this collection. There is a typed description at the bottom of the mat, which reads: "Doway: Printed by Lavrence Kellam at the signe of the holie Lambe.
The first edition of the Roman Catholic Bible in English. The translators were scholars exiled for their religion by Queen Elizabeth. Outstanding among them were Allen, Martin, Bristow, and Worthington. The publication was delayed for nearly thirty years by “our poor estate in banishment”. This version is noteworthy for its Latinized style; many of the words are unknown elsewhere in English Bibles; as, “colinquinations”, “pasche”, “prepuce”, “scenopegia”, and “He exinanited Himself” (“He humbled Himself”). Even the heading are in some cases unfamiliar: Osee, Micheas, Sophronias, and Aggeus. (Darlow and Moule 231)"
