Abstract
Katagami stencil made from multiple layers of thin, durable mulberry bark paper (washi) laminated together with fermented persimmon tannin (kakishibu). This treatment makes the paper waterproof, flexible, and strong enough to withstand repeated dyeing, as these stencils were used to print patterns on silk and cotton fabric in Japan during the Meiji Period (1850–1912). A subtractive pattern of repeated hexagons and abstract lines in between. A stippled signature is on the top right hand side.
