Abstract
Born out of the civil and political unrest of the late 1960's, Ginger wanted to start anew, making a magazine that was "...literate, but not literary..." and challenged itself to remain relevant to the world around it, according to the preface of the first issue. Professor James Vest wrote in 2009. “[Issue] inspired by first Southwestern in Memphis (Rhodes) in Paris Maymester (1978), led by Professor James Vest and A. Robbins. Edited by Mary Jernigan who made a contribution to start a fund to help students go on future Maymesters in Paris.” Transcribed from a post-it note by E. Gates in 2009. Cover art courtesy of the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, Memphis, Tennessee.
