Chemical Test Sets Lab Afire A young graduate student last week conducted a chemical test which resuited in $75,000 damages at Denver university. The 22-year-old student, Claiborne Smith, a first-year graduate in chemistry, said that "suddenly all hell broke loose." He managed to escape and warn others as the flash fire raced through the research building. Smith said he was conducting to extra-curricular contract experiment which involved highly votatile organo-metallic compounds. "These compounds are very sensitive to air and are very difficult to predict," the young scientist said. When the explosion-like flames burst out, Smith said he raced from the laboratory to warn others to clear out. Ten other persons were at work in the steel quonset hut structure, he said.
