We will be examining the formal elements of line, shape, mass, light, color, texture, and balance; the principles of composition and design; the distinction between form and content; the meaning of representation; and the process of interpretative criticism. The goal of this class is to develop the fundamental tools necessary for viewing and analyzing the visual arts.
