There exists a rich, symbiotic, historical and contemporary relationship between design in non-fine art areas (including the functional arts) and painting. In this class we will explore this relationship – we will begin to examine the influence of elements such as architecture, industrial design, body art, interior design, fabric, furniture, pottery and wallpaper have had on fine art over the years & visa versa. More importantly, this class will offer useful techniques (in multiple methods and media) for incorporating these influences into your own work, drawing upon them as source material both direct and removed.en-USRhodes College owns the rights to the archival digital images in this repository.
