| Abstract: | Thai, late 19th early 20th century. Vessantara Jataka (old Buddhist story from India dealing with Last Previous Life of the Buddha). Everything being miraculously returned, including rain-giving elephant, the home town invites Prince Cessantara back. This painting shows joyful reunion between Prince, wife, two children, two grandparents. The painting is held by a dark wooden frame. There is a sticker on the back of frame which reads, "78.0114 Thai Painting 19th-20th century Vessantara Jataka". |
