Abstract
Artist's statement: "Working on this painting opened up my process to include chance and uncontrolled pours. It helped me work with failures as they presented themselves instead of throwing out the piece completely or starting over. I was able to use a wide variety of touches and marks in this painting, but I did not find it as satisfying as using one or two specific kinds of marks. The dark values, pours and paint smears helped me create a push a pull effect. The imagery was useful in the fact that it was a general and broad language of nature. This allowed me to have access to a wide variety of symbols and images to work with. I did feel as if the image became too rendered so in my next painting I tried to make my marks and gestures looser."
