Abstract
This is a digital photograph of Charlotte Sechrist's painting. It was submitted as the second critiqued assignment, "Irony versus Sincerity," on March 1, 2017 in Erin Harmon's Intermediate/Advanced Painting class. All pieces are 36x48 or larger; acrylic on canvas. The artist's statement reads: "A warm yellow background covered in a subtle white grid hugs a brown bookshelf, with a large window situated at the right. The bookshelf is filled with all types of objects, from mugs to a record player to books, each one painted in a different voice. Some are smooth and blue, others are dryly painted and pink, and so on. These elements work to create a disharmonious, but still cohesive, view of a bookshelf that in turn begins to feel deeply personal. The bookshelf serves as a narrative explaining the creator’s attachment to each object."
