Abstract
General Description: This seems to be an award orcommemorative medal from the second "Golden Michelangelo" exhibition held at Pietrasanta and Massa. The first of these events was held in 1967. The hills surrounding Pietrasanta supplied Michelangelo with the marble from which he carved many sculptures. He was a frequent visitor tot hearea and just north along the coast lie the hills of Carrara, still among the best marble quarries in the world.
Obverse Description: The obverse of this medal copies the design of the medal from 1875 issued by Luigi Gori for the quadricentenial celebrations of Michelangelo's birth. It features a right-side profile portrait of Michelangelo and the inscription"MICHELANGELO BUONARROTI."
Reverse Description: The field of the reverse includes the inscription "Marina DiPietrasanta 1968" surrounded by "2° Michelangelo D'Oro."
