Abstract
The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to the concepts of classical Operating
System issues and design.
• When you successfully complete this course, you should be able to:
o explain how operating systems manage concurrent processes including the complete
lifecycle of user processes, threads, process synchronization, and deadlock avoidance.
o evaluate algorithms used for process scheduling, memory allocation and disk access.
o understand how operating systems manage physical and virtual memory including
segmentation and paging.
o describe the organization of different file systems used with the Windows and UNIX
operating systems.
o develop programs which demonstrate the use of
