Lawrence Anthony Collection

Lawrence "Lon" Anthony was born in Florence, South Carolina in 1934. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1956 and began working in the engineering design department of a paper company. He then studied with Lamar Dodd at the University of Georgia and was awarded an M.F.A. in painting in 1958. After graduation, he spent a year in Europe visiing museaum and looking at art becoming inspired to create large sculptures. His career at the College began in 1961 when he became artist-in-residence and he taught until his retirement in 1995 when he was named a Professor Emeritus.
